Challenger Sports is now proud to present Rugby clinics to communities across the USA and Canada. Our Rookie Rugby programs are non-contact. Players practice and play a form of flag rugby. It is a fun, safe, team game that develops a range of ball handling, running and evasion skills. Participants learn the importance of teamwork and respect for opponents, coaches and referees, which are key elements of all athletic endeavors. Our Rookie Rugby programs are co-ed so the girls compete with the boys

Join The Gorham Recreation Department as we offer an introductory wrestling program. This program will be taught by a range of instructors from college and high school. This program will focus on and include the wrestling basics such as: Rules, Stances, positioning, scoring & etiquette. Equipment Needed: Wrestling shoes, comfortable clothes, water bottle, headgear (optional), Mouthpiece (optional). This wrestling program is open to boys and girls grades K– 5 and will be held from 5:00 pm to 6:00pm at Shaw Gym Wednesdays.

Middle School Ultimate Frisbee!  For those kids who want to get out of the house after a long winter, and get some great exercise and socialize with friends, ultimate Frisbee is for you!  Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, the game of ultimate Frisbee is played by two teams with a flying disc on a field with end zones, similar to football.  Get a group of friends and come join us. The Middle School team will play surrounding towns.High School Program - We will try and enter the Maine High School League. Games will be on Wednesdays, with practices taking place on Tuesday and Friday. Our participation in this league is tentative. As are practice times and days.

The Tai Chi classes will focus on a set of "fun" exercises that involve light stretching, Qi Gong (Chi Kung) breathing exercises, and a basic introductory form. Students will leave at the end of each class feeling more relaxed with a calm peace of mind.  Toby Plourde holds black belts in various styles of karate, kung fu and tai chi. In addition, he has taught martial arts classes in New Hampshire, Florida, Massachusetts and Maine.

Mad Science of Maine sparks imaginative learning for K-6th graders when school is out! Children experience first-hand what science is all about by getting hands-on with project-based activities, observing fascinating demonstrations, taking part in inquiry-based discussions, and by extending their learning at home with correlated take-home projects. Engaged, active, enthusiastic, and of course FUN learning is what we are all about!Mad Science Summer Camp!Eureka! The Inventors CampInspire the inventor and scientist in you during this week of discovery and invention. Each day children   will be given a series of challenges which must be overcome using basic materials, simple machines,   tips from world famous inventors and the most   important thing of all– your mind! If you were stranded   on a desert island how would you survive? You will   need to build shelter, find food  and purify water,   protect yourself and your   team mates from the   elements and find a way off the island. Journey to   the future and examine   the ultramodern inventions of   the 23rd century. Then design the future - today!   Create mini light sabers, mini-space stations, and   electric flying contraptions. With a little bit of ingenuity, you’ll construct catapults and forts, build Ruberg contraptions that perform simple tasks, and experiment with humanoid robots. Take home projects include ping-pong ball launchers, mousetrap contraption cars, mystery sticks, tubular blow darts, and other wacky contraptions. Join Gorham Rec for our version of tee ball (kindergarten), and baseball/softball for grades 1-6.  These programs are run by volunteer coaches who will be working closely with the kids to help them improve their skills and build self esteem.  Emphasis will be placed on teaching safety, sportsmanship, FUNdamentals, and rules of the game.  Most practices will consist of warm ups, work in stations, fun games, and learning how to play each position. Volunteers needed!

Participants learn the importance of teamwork and respect for opponents, coaches and referees, which are key elements of all athletic endeavors. Middle School Ultimate Frisbee!  For those kids who want to get out of the house after a long winter, and get some great exercise and socialize with friends, ultimate Frisbee is for you!  Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, the game of ultimate Frisbee is played by two teams with a flying disc on a field with end zones, similar to football.  Get a group of friends and come join us. The Middle School team will play surrounding towns.High School Program - We will try and enter the Maine High School League. Games will be on Wednesdays, with practices taking place on Tuesday and Friday. Our participation in this league is tentative. As are practice times and days.

The Tai Chi classes will focus on a set of "fun" exercises that involve light stretching, Qi Gong (Chi Kung) breathing exercises, and a basic introductory form. Students will leave at the end of each class feeling more relaxed with a calm peace of mind.  Toby Plourde holds black belts in various styles of karate, kung fu and tai chi. In addition, he has taught martial arts classes in New Hampshire, Florida, Massachusetts and Maine.

Come join the Gorham Rec staff as they host the Annual MPRA Track and Field program for the 2019 season.  This introductory program is designed to help foster a basic understanding of track and field and promote physical fitness through events like running , jumping , and throwing.Open to youth ages 7-14 in the following events: 50m dash (ages 7-10 only)100m dash 200m run 400m run 800m run 1600m run (ages 13-14) 4 x 100m relay (ages 9-12) Softball Throw Standing Long Jump  Practice starts Tuesday, June 4th from 4-5:00pm at the GHS Track and meets every Tuesday until the MPRA Meet on Tuesday, July 9th at the GHS track. The program staff also strives to encourage children to reach their potential and develop a sense of accomplishment. Middle School Ultimate Frisbee!  For those kids who want to get out of the house after a long winter, and get some great exercise and socialize with friends, ultimate Frisbee is for you!  Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, the game of ultimate Frisbee is played by two teams with a flying disc on a field with end zones, similar to football.  Get a group of friends and come join us. The Middle School team will play surrounding towns.High School Program - We will try and enter the Maine High School League. Games will be on Wednesdays, with practices taking place on Tuesday and Friday. Our participation in this league is tentative. As are practice times and days.

Come join the Gorham Rec staff as they host the Annual MPRA Track and Field program for the 2019 season.  This introductory program is designed to help foster a basic understanding of track and field and promote physical fitness through events like running , jumping , and throwing.Open to youth ages 7-14 in the following events: 50m dash (ages 7-10 only)100m dash 200m run 400m run 800m run 1600m run (ages 13-14) 4 x 100m relay (ages 9-12) Softball Throw Standing Long Jump  Practice starts Tuesday, June 4th from 4-5:00pm at the GHS Track and meets every Tuesday until the MPRA Meet on Tuesday, July 9th at the GHS track. (Practices on June 4th, June 11th, June 18th, June 25th, No practice on July 2nd). This is free program and will complement the Track program run by Coach Karcanes. Join Coach Jim Karcanes for this exciting program that is part of the USA Track and Field (USATF) Summer track series.  Meets take place at various locations across Southern Maine and will take place during the day on Thursdays.  The goal of the Gorham Summer Track Club is to introduce children to physical fitness through basic events like walking, running, jumping, and throwing. The program staff also strives to encourage children to reach their potential and develop a sense of accomplishment. Middle School Ultimate Frisbee!  For those kids who want to get out of the house after a long winter, and get some great exercise and socialize with friends, ultimate Frisbee is for you!  Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, the game of ultimate Frisbee is played by two teams with a flying disc on a field with end zones, similar to football.  Get a group of friends and come join us. The Middle School team will play surrounding towns.High School Program - We will try and enter the Maine High School League. Games will be on Wednesdays, with practices taking place on Tuesday and Friday. Our participation in this league is tentative. As are practice times and days.

The Tai Chi classes will focus on a set of "fun" exercises that involve light stretching, Qi Gong (Chi Kung) breathing exercises, and a basic introductory form. Gorham Rec will be offering basketball camps for Summer 2019!Campers will take part in an informative and enjoyable basketball program focused on teaching the fundamentals that will help your camper develop their game. All campers will receive individual and team instruction, as well as participate in fun and competitive games, to help them become better players. Camp t-shirt included.
 
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM    Track - Summer Track
Join Coach Jim Karcanes for this exciting program that is part of the USA Track and Field (USATF) Summer track series.  Meets take place at various locations across Southern Maine and will take place during the day on Thursdays.  The goal of the Gorham Summer Track Club is to introduce children to physical fitness through basic events like walking, running, jumping, and throwing. The program staff also strives to encourage children to reach their potential and develop a sense of accomplishment. If you’re a kid between the ages of 5 and 14 who wants to have fun outdoors, or if you’re a parent trying to encourage healthy habits, the Gorham Summer Track Club is made for you!

Gorham Rec will be partnering up with Coach DJ to offer a variety of different tennis programs for grades K-5 this autumn. Gorham Rec has a limited supply of rackets, please contact us if you would like to use one for your lessons.
 
9:00 AM - 2:00 PM    Green Screen Studio Filmmaking Camp with Unwritten Roads - Green Screen Studio Film Making Camp
Green Screen Studio Filmmaking Camp with Unwritten Roads During this 3-day-intensive campers will work together to write, direct and film an original movie! Campers will produce their own film from page to screen and take on leadership roles as writers, set and costume designers, actors, directors, and editors. The course will culminate with a film screening in true Hollywood style!
 
9:30 AM - 10:03 AM    Stretch and Tone - STRETCH & TONE
Stretch and Tone class focuses on building strength in all muscle groups, developing balance, flexibility, and agility.
